TIPS FOR CHOOSING A COSMETIC LASER CLINIC:

1) Research your laser clinic.

Many facilities that offer cosmetic laser are not trained medical physicians. Check into your clinic to make sure that the laser treatment provided is done with FDA approved equipment and is handled by board certified medical staff.

There is a chance that a patient could be burned or experience negative results from cosmetic laser. It is important to treat this as seriously as you’d treat your health.

Talk to other patients of the clinic first.  Make sure they are satisfied with their results.

2) Ask if the clinic has a follow-up plan.

In case you are not satisfied with your results. A credible clinic will outline procedures if something does happen as a result of the laser surgery. Find out their process.

3) Find out if this is the right treatment for your needs.

Go to a clinic that offers a free consultation with a nurse or physician who is experienced and trained about skin health.

Don’t be sold a package until you find out the facts and how this procedure will work with your skin pigmentation and skin color. Laser treatments are effective, though not for everyone. Make sure your cosmetic physician is knowledgeable about other treatments and understands your skin health conditions.

Ask if there are other options to cosmetic laser that would be as effective, i.e. Botox, microdermabrasion or other. Be sure to ask your doctor specifics about how it will affect your skin, so you can make an educated decision.

4) Analyze the cost.

Most cosmetic laser facilities charge per visit. It is important to know the number of visits needed to produce the results you’d like. This will help you better understand if the treatment package you are purchasing will get the results you expect.

5) Know what to expect.

Make sure you know what the outcome would be and that your expectations for cosmetic laser are realistic. Cosmetic laser is effective, but not a “miracle cure.”

Also, have your physician walk you through any side effects and after treatment care. Many procedures require staying out of the sun for as long as a month or on some skin tones there may be a slight discoloration.
